About Me

A self-portrait taken in the empty pressroom of The Charlotte Observer at 600 South Tryon Street in Charlotte shortly before the newspaper moved. It's now demolished with new construction under way.

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.”

— Jonathan Swift

I have been a professional journalist for nearly 40 years, and a photographer since junior high. The past 27 years I worked at The Charlotte Observer in many different jobs. I was lucky. I loved what I was doing and planned to work until I felt like it was time to leave. My luck ran out this past July - I became a layoff casualty like many in the newspaper business.

My work focuses on corporate photojournalism. It's an extension of what I have always done, report with a camera on events, people, trends and companies. The only difference is that I work for corporations, nonprofits and such instead of a news gathering company. My work is done with the same integrity.
